Ted has been involved in the Scottish live music scene since he was fifteen. He is proud to be a native of The Royal and Ancient Burgh of Stirling (Stirling is now a city but he much prefers the previous description of his hometown) and was born and raised a mere claymores length from Stirling Castle and The National Wallace Monument. He had a British number 1 single in 1996 with a version of Bob Dylan's “Knocking on Heaven's Door” which he had adapted as an anti-gun protest song after the horrific slaughter of sixteen primary school children in Dunblane. (see Dunblane page) Ted performs many solo gigs, sometimes uses a couple of musicians as “The Ted Christopher Band” and of course fronts “Bannockburn”. |
Bannockburn, are the group formed by Ted Christopher initially to play for 20,000 of the “Tartan Army” at Bellahouston Park in Glasgow, before Scotland games. They have gone from strength to strength since then, and are seasoned travellers who go all over the world, playing their wonderful music. Ted chose the name “Bannockburn” as it is a word that instantly gives a sense of pride and identity to all Scots worldwide. They also play on a regular basis in Azerbaijan where the band has adopted an orphanage in Baku. In that country they are jokingly referred to as the Caledonian Society's resident band. Ted and fiddler Davie Sinclair have been awarded honorary membership of The Baku Caledonian Society.
